Travel the World, One Bite at a Time.
Foreign Feast gives curious eaters the lowdown on uncharted food and drinks from around the globe. Its mission: To help you overcome your hunger hang-ups and discover new flavors, new culinary obsessions, and—with any luck—new perspectives on international cultures.
With each post, I’ll sample and review a recent gastronomic discovery and provide you with some fun cultural context (For example, did you know that Efsane Uludag Gazozo’s secret recipe was developed to honor Turkish president Nuri Erbak?).
Together, we’ll snack and sip our way through a never-ending parade of weird, wonderful world cuisine—from Florentine cow stomach sandwiches to Japanese sweet potato rice candy to Brazilian fruit soda and beyond. No need to be nervous; I’ll be your guide through it all.
I’m John Mazur—gourmand, musician, marketing professional, business manager, and world traveler. I’ve been seeking out new and interesting flavors for as long as I can remember. Growing up in the New York City area, I was never far from one of the country’s most thriving international food scenes, and it captivated me at a young age. While most children were content with Kids’ Meal fare, I begged my parents to let me try more atypical foods like fish eggs, wild game, and blood sausage (which, I admit, they probably thought was pretty weird). Don’t get me wrong, I’m not above meat and potatoes. But I firmly believe that stepping outside the comfort zone is one of life’s greatest thrills. With so much out there to be savored, why not eat adventurously?
